How much epoxy to do chassis?

I am getting everything ready for shooting my frame and was curious as to how much to buy? SPI sells epoxy by the quart and the gallon. I'm just needing enough for the frame and I'll spray it twice, so can I get by with a quart? Thanks for the help.

You will be amazed how much epoxy a frame can consume in my experience. Get a gallon. Spray a third coat if you have enough.

Totally agree. A gallon of epoxy is cheaper than 3 quarts. Might as well get a gallon and have it on hand. Even if you don't use it all you'll have it for the future. The epoxy keeps well.
I would get the activator in quarts though, even though that is more. Then you can only open what you need. Once you open the activator, the clock is ticking on shelf life (it can be extended with an inert gas.)

I agree, painting a frame is like painting a ladder, much of the product gets lost as overspray. Lowering the gun pressure and narrowing the fan will help but you increase the chance of runs. 2 quarts might be enough, but if it's not you'll wish you bought the gallon. Plus there are many other uses for any left over epoxy.

Just for reference I sprayed my frame , frame only no suspension , using a product that mixed 4/1 ,and it took 2 mixed quarts so that was 80 oz. And it was barely enuff. 2 quarts and 2 quarts of activator is a sprayable gallon, .....but like others said I'd get a gallon to have some on standby

Buy the gallon kit and plan for at least 3 coats. And frames are tough. You'll want it on a rotisserie or an engine hoist at one end to raise it high so you can get underneath.

I've painted one frame on a rotisserie which is very convenient, a frame I just did this summer I didn't remove any of the suspension or rear axle, so I put it on tall jack stands, sprayed the top and sides, and then hoisted one end up as high as I could with an engine hoist and painted the undersides until about midway down the frame, then moved the hoist to the other end of the frame.

Yes frames are tricky to get coated. I had this idea to suspend it from my lift. . Could use an engine hoist to do something similar
