Is this solvent pop?

Backyard Hack
Not my work, saw this on the Camaro forum and trying to learn a little.

Will time in the sun help fix it? Car was painted in May.

Thanks,
Don

The first guess is the water issue but needs to know when did it show up.
1st coat, how long?
Later coats?
Or days after, if we know facts, we can pinpoint the problem.

I don’t have any details and neither does the car owner. It’s only on one door.

Won't know till we shave a bubble but either water or rust.
It could be one of the following if bubbles are caused by metal starting to rust.
Acid etches primer after 4 to 7 years.
Direct to metal urethane primer after 2 to 5 years.
Lacquer primer.
Hard to guess not knowing why only door doing it.

Don’t think it’s solvent pop, not the first one is busted open. I’ve seen similar before, came from too much Ospho left in the bottom of deep pits. When sun hits it long enough the acid starts working again and the primer delaminates over top of the chemical reaction in those pits.

I wonder if this was done by the same person/shop all the way through? If so, it shouldn't be too hard to get an accounting of what was done. My instinct is that it was not. If one did the bodywork, and another did the paint, there'll be a lot of finger pointing going on.

Apparently the shop was out of state and no longer accessible. So the owner says he is on his own. I feel bad for him.

i deleted my posts. new neighbor is reving boat in backyard and if i wasn't in bed i'd go & ask him to stop,
here he goes again.

Well, hopefully it's not on the quarter or roof, or adjacent to same. If not, it's simply a matter of repairing the panel and painting it, and maybe blending an adjacent panel.

I have a 57 Chevy wagon right now that just needs some "touch up" work. Well it is slowly turning into a full blown nightmare. Everywhere the chrome even touched the paint is a chip, and there is a lot of chrome. Looks like there is spray polyester over bare metal on the whole car. I see problems everywhere, including surface rust starting to pop in places. I feel bad for this customer, also. He got it back from the painter he used a few months ago after waiting 2 1/2 years!

I'm with Crash, bet this door was done by its self as a replacement later on.

From the owner:

the door is original and was taken down to the metal. There was some metal repair done near the bottom of the door then sprayed with epoxy primer. Not sure what brand of primer was used and filler was used to get it straight. The paint and clear coat is PPG.

No major body repair work was done near the area in the pictures.

Well, this gives us a few ideas.
Lets ass-u-me he used the LF epoxy.
+Metal was cold when it was epoxied? The door is painted separately from the car.
+2k primer or more likely polyester primer was applied too soon?
Or water in line when spraying any of the above products and shaving of a bubble will send us in a more concrete idea.
My bet is number 2 but too many things we dont know, except I bet the door was done by itself for some reason.

Well the plot thickens. The build thread shows that the car was painted twice by two different shops due to the first job being poor quality. It’s not clear what prep was done for the second job. Both shops were crude without booths. I think bargain shopping got the best of the owner.

I think everyone is right, strip and repaint.

What area of the door is that? You said there was some metal repair done but no major body repair work done. Exactly what repairs were done?
