Leaving white SPI epoxy for tailgate letters?

I’m seriously considering just masking off the tailgate letters, now in white SPI epoxy primer, and then applying base red. I’ll then remove masking and clear coat with SPI UC.

I like the epoxy color for these letters better than the SPI pure white that is on the cab roof.

Do you think this will be ok?

Thank You and Merry Christmas,
Joel

I know that if a vinyl paint mask material is used on the epoxy within the recoat window you will have big problems removing the masks. Something in the adhesive of the paint mask reacts with the epoxy and becomes part of it.
Other mask material may work ok, test first off the work.

when it yellows, it also powders. Just sounds like it would be too easy to hit the tailgate with the white from the roof before you mask and paint. People will see two shades of white on a truck, roof to gate, then like dhutton says, will continue to change and look even worse.

Thanks guys, this kind of input is exactly what I was looking for. Pure white is what it will be.

Sometimes the answer that you want isn’t the one that you got but the one that you got is the answer that you needed. When this happens you know that others are looking out for you - for that I am truly grateful.
