Looking for a good DIY primer gun

I use my Iwata LPH 1.4 (base/clear gun) or my Astro EVO4018 1.8 (primer gun) if I want more build. SPI epoxy sprays really nice through the 1.4 even unreduced.
 
Awesome TY, I was hoping someone had something like that for sale :) I figured I'd try here 1st before buying new.
 
Epoxy shoots fine using a Finex 100 or Finex 300. Both of which are $100 +/- guns.
 
i bought a viper 2.2 to shoot my epoxy with. 44 dollars at northern tools. for the money it is a very good gun unlike the hf purple pos .
 
Gonna look at that, there's a Northern Tool close to me. Does Epoxy go on better with a 2.2 than 1.4?
 
epoxy induced overnight will shoot better through a larger gun imo . you can dial down the 2.2 but you cant dial up a 1.4 . the 2.2 at low pressure will give you better build. i am shooting for build not finish.
 
I just got a Devilbiss Finishline 4 because it came with different tips,
one being a 2.2 which I plan for poly primer.
I've been spraying epoxy and 2k with its 1.8 tip so far.
This gun is really nice for primer.
Seems to have a bigger droplet size than my other guns which
is great for primer, less overspray and melts in better making
a more consistent finish.
I've tried it with its 1.3 for base and it's done pretty good for that too.
Haven't sprayed clear with it, My Iwata will still be for that.
This is a good gun for the middle of the road priced ones and is very versatile
with its many tips, it's also set up for the "bag system" like all Devilbiss
models, which I like to use.:cool:

That's going in my "thing to remember file". Like a DA, I've been cranking the psi up thinking I was doing good. Thanks for the info.
 
higher pressure just heats the paper and releases the abrasives. i run my da so slow it drives other guys nuts but paper last forever and the paint comes off faster. heat is not your friend.
