LOW COST PAINT JOBS

@Bossed, Well said. I've thought the same thing in the past and recently decided to try and write down in detail what goes into a job, so that I can print it out on paper and give that to prospective customers. Might give them more understanding of the amount of time and effort that goes into producing quality work. I think it will also help weed out folks too, if I had them the sheet and they give a cursory glance and go back to talking about the price or how cheaply could I do this or that, I know they are not the customers for me.:)

I like the approach of those old mechanic t shirts, 50 bucks an hour, 80 an hour if you already tried to fix it yourself, 120 if you are going to tell me how to fix it, 150 an hour if you are going to watch.

That's the simple answer, I would have done it for 2500, but now that I need to fix someone else's mistakes, its going to be 3500.

Maybe its best to say that at the beginning, so they know they will be out double the money for not letting you do it right the first time.

And they will bring it back forty times nit picking just to make you spend more time because they think you charged too much. And yes many times these are people with lots of money.

My dad operated a mechanical contracting business for 40 years, and a crane and rigging business for 35 of those same years. A long time ago, he told me something I think any business man, whatever business he's in, should always keep in mind.

He said "Son, in any business you'll deal with two kinds of people. There's Prospects, and there's Suspects. And the most important thing a man needs to know is how to tell the difference between the two."
