LPH 400 - Suggestions?

I'm looking to purchase a new spray gun to replace my old (budget quality) HVLP guns and have my eyes set on the LPH 400 right now. I consider myself a novice painter, but do have some experience. For epoxy primer and high build, I plan to use my other guns. So I'm looking for a good gun to shoot both base and clear. I have not sprayed any metallics, pearls, kandy, etc... but I want to be equipped for it in the future.

The LPH 400 has great reviews and lots of other good feedback on this forum. I'm looking for guidance on which tip to purchase though. 1.3 or 1.4 ?
If I were to get a new gun with only 1 tip that would be used for base & clear... what would you recommend? Most likely, my next project will be using SPI Red and Universal Clear, but there is a chance I might go with a metallic or Kandy as well.

Appreciate the feedback. If you have suggestions on where to buy from, that'd be great also

Thanks

I have been using the 1.4 tip (Silver Cap) and it has worked great for epoxy primer, base and clear.
The LPH 400 requires a slower steady hand when spraying compared to a SATA or DeVilbiss Tekna.
Here are a few pictures of things painted with it:

That looks really nice. Is that as-sprayed, or after cut & buff? Thanks for the input.

I've had mine about 10 years. Orange cap. Haven't had any regrets about buying it. I take it apart to clean every time I use it. Sprays metallic colors just fine. Sprays clear also just fine.

I love my lph’s. I try all the latest and greatest when they come out but always end up back to my lph’s. I’ve personally found the orange cap can do it all well. But of course I have them all. Certain metallic bases can be a little tricky here and there but it always comes out good. Pretty old technology at this point but nothing really feels as good to me. My opinion of course. The sagolas were pretty nice. The dv1 base coat gun sprays base excellent. But love me a lph lol.

That is outstanding work especially if all but the red truck were pics of it as sprayed. Truly outstanding! Can;t really get any better than that.
Thanks. My clear application started getting better when I slowed down and move the gun a bit closer. At first I went a little too slow and got some wave as can be seen on this hood.

I actually tried to watch the clear flow out while spraying as I had read somewhere on this site.
This hood turned out great with only a couple of sags but the owner was thrilled and wanted his truck back.
Went from this:

These are both as sprayed also due to customer budgets:

Euro Clear with Slow Activator and Slow Reducer on most of the vehicles.

If you want just one cap to do it all, use the silver cap. I've sprayed clear, metallics, and solids with that cap and it will do great for you. The first time I was using that combo I was still quite bad at it too but I still managed to get good results (maybe that's mostly thanks to Barry though).

I retired mine to just epoxy - after buying and using the Sata 5000rp - wow ! Faster and lays down clear slick - don’t get me wrong, loved the LPH but there is a difference- I’m sure more experienced painters can get the LPH to do what the Sata does but I hard a hard time controlling the “urethane wave” with the LPH

I find the orange cap does everything great. Lays clear as nice as you want it to. With a 1.4 it’s really not that slow. It’s no RP but just saying. RPs dont fit everyone’s style.

Do you run the Fluid the Same on both using the Same product ?
I too have both 1.3,1.4 and all the Caps and unless I LOOK at the Nozzle, have shot quite often and not even realized 'which' one I was using. Lol.. I really prefer the 1.4,Silver or Orange cap and the 1.3 is generally only Base's but honestly, it comes down to adjusting the Gun period.
