Bought this at a garage sale.....new in box with tags, Mac Tools SG6ek spray gun. Long shot, but can anyone tell me anything about this gun? I'm thinking it must be old and it is a conventional spray gun. not HVLP? It' a 1.4 tip. I was thinking maybe use as a primer gun? Here is some pics I got off the net mines identical.

Pretty sure it's a rebadged Astro Pneumatic. I know all of MAC guns used to be. Just twice the price of what Astro sells it for.

Like Don said it's gonna put out a lot of overspray and consequently use more material. Conventional gun not HVLP. Would work OK for spraying epoxy. Not going to be good for any 2K urethane primer as a 1.4 needle is just too small. You could try spraying base and or clear with it, probably won't spray too well though. And you will use a lot more material. With cost of material so high now a good gun will actually save you money.

LOL, its gotta be old if they are giving you directions to spray Lacquer.

I honestly get better clear with a conventional gun. Just HVLP guns and spraying clear at 50 PSI seems to go against the design of the gun.

yep, that's the first thing I thought too. :)

Oh well, for $25.00 I took a chance..............and lost..:(

The good news is I just ordered a Devilbiss FLG 5..........from across the pond.......

Still have to get a primer gun for SPI epoxy primer............whats the recommended tip size for that?

I have heard that some people say you need at least a 1.8 or 2.0

Thanks for the replies...........!

It's all in the Tech Manual, make sure you read it. They include one with every order. Always if you are a new customer.

Needle/Nozzle sizes
Spi Epoxy -1.4
2k Urethane Primer 1.7-2.0
Polyester Primer 2.3-3.0

I only think you lost because you are not trying it. HVLP guns are up to a thousand just trying to get a gun to atomize like that one will.

Thanks for all the replies........appreciate it.........I will at least try out the the Mac gun just to see how it works......

"Make sure you have an excellent respirator, eye protection, and a lot of air flow in your booth."
