Masking for primer

Hey guys,

I'm going to be spraying epoxy primer and some polyester primer on some doors and fenders (off of vehicle right now) sometime next week or so. Just wondering, after spraying the epoxy how do you guys go about masking for poly primer? Do you guys even bother masking or just shoot the exterior of the doors and fenders and not worry about the overspray? Do you guys spray high build primer in door jamb areas and sand before bc/cc or just scuff up the epoxy primer?

Sorry for all the questions, I am sure there are multiple ways to do these things but trying not to over complicate it and seeing what would be best for me.

No reason to spray 2 different primers. Most door jamb areas shouldn't need high build, but if for some reason they do, just shoot a coat of the poly primer when you do the outside. If the jambs look nice in epoxy, I would avoid getting too much overspray in there by masking. Sanding dry poly overspray off of difficult areas to sand would be causing more work than necessary.

Im assuming its just the door and fender, if so id only be worried about the inner lip that shows on a fender. And id back mask under edge of door and drop 18 inch paper to spray the door. Would be masked same for epoxy or any primering

Yes just the doors and fenders right now. The door shells were previously sandblasted and epoxied and replaced a door skin. The fenders were brought down to bare metal and epoxied but had to do some minor rust repairs so they also need to be epoxied again (inside and out). It only makes sense to me to shoot poly on the exterior of the doors and fenders but wasnt sure what the standard practice is for masking. The door jamb areas on the door and the body look fine in epoxy so I will just leave them alone, just wasnt sure if its ok to shoot bc/cc over epoxy but I guess it's no different than shooting over as a sealer.

You can top coat over epoxy. If thier nice in epoxy id leave them myself.
Just remember the 7 day window on the epoxy or have to sand and recoat.
If you do the other primer id just back mask the edges and hang paper so over spray doesnt go on inners and edges of door and fender
