Maximum time between clear coats?

Maximum time between spraying clear coats? Do I have more than 30 mins between coats. What's the maximum time?

Thanks

Depends on activator speed, size of job, and temperature. I would say no more than 15 minutes past the "dust-free" stage, but that assumes you know what that is. If you want a round rule of thumb, 25 minutes is about it to be safe.

There was one user that mentioned he sprayed 3-4 coats during the course of a full day. Barry has said applying more clear within 24 hours without scuffing is also safe.

is there any benefit to wait longer than 15 minutes between coats? i have always sprayed in less than sterile areas and wanted it out of the dust danger as soon as possible.

Depends on conditions. Getting on it too quick increases the chance of solvent trapping, which can cause all sorts of problems. But if the activator and/or reducer is properly matched to the temperature, and the coatings underneath the clear were good and dry, 15 minutes is not going to cause any problems.

We do have to be careful when talking about extended flash times to make sure users know that they only apply to Universal Clear, AFAIK.

I had no idea the extended flash times only applied to the U.V clear. Good to know, even though I only use U.V clear, if for some reason I ever need to use the euro or production clear I guess that's good info to have. When I'm laying clear, I wait 30-40 mins from the time I walk out of the booth to put the next coat on depending on temp and activator used.

So what is the max time for Euro without scuffing? 24hrs for Universal?
