My buddy wants a "20 foot paint job"

Not bad for a guy's first shoot. @tedgbert did a good job and got better as he went.

FYI, that door had 3 patch panels welded into it. Totally went Frito-Lay, but got worked out.
Now just 80 hours of cut/buff and he is done

That is a GREAT idea letting him paint it! Any flaws will now get an answer of pride in him saying it was his first paint job and it it is amazing of few flaw there are! Great job @tedgbert !

He doing a bug, what year? Its my project right now and color looks close to mine too. Hope I can get mine this good.
67, turns out it is a unicorn year, hard to get parts for.

Take your time, be willing to do it over, aim for a result, not a date.
Is that enough cheesy advice ?

Sea Blue. I think it was a 1965 color. Turned out to be tricky as there were a few Sea Blue colors. He got it from Chad in Motobase. I'll ping @tedgbert to give details.

Funny. Im doing the same. L360, got it from Chads as well in Motobase. The sample I got wasnt quite right to my eye and some pictures I am trying to match to, so he sold me some of the mixing pigments to tone, and I am on a custom mix to start.

Im trying to get everything in Epoxy Primer before temps cool. Ill be painint next warm season. Right now I am working on repairing a hacked dash, and trying to find a front apron that fits nice.

Wow reading back through this I'm stealing that a frame idea. Ive been contemplating how I will shuffle things around on sawhorses. Build a huge one! I notice y'all masked off the wheel wells did he leave those in black sealer? Did he start with a gallon? How many coats and how much left? I have been debating how far to go on the inside, wells, engine bay etc.

Hi aviator8, yes the color was the L360, Moto base from Chads. We have a little less than a quart left. Did 2 coats on body, 3 coats on all the loose panels on the A frame. Taped off the wheel wells, engine compartment, and front trunk area, because they were shot with Raptor bed liner. The Spi epoxy would have worked great here also.

I have to admit I have a real love for many of the 50-60s German and even the Brit solid colors. The sky blue is a great choice!

Assuming you started with a Gallon, so 2 spray-able after reduced and you have 1Quart color left?? Did you spray color on the inside of all the fenders and lids? If so how many coats? How about CC. I'm unsure what people do for that if you aren't leaving inside fenders in Raptor or Epoxy, is it ok to spray color and leave, or top with CC? You got great results I hope I can get close to that.

Correct, just under 1 quart of color left.
The inside of the fenders and engine lid were done in Raptor. The trunk area, inside trunk lid, and engine compartment were done in black epoxy, not color. Looks great!
We did 4 coats of Universal Clear on most of the color areas. Took a full gallon (2 gallons sprayable) to get that done. Only did 2 coats on the jambs, dash, door insides etc. 4 coats on exterior panels that would be cut/buffed.

I've heard the pro's comment that BC/CC is not recommended for inner fenders. It will chip. 2-3 full coats of epoxy, with long induction time would be perfect. Raptor as well.

When we opened the L360 motobase, our stomachs sank. It didn't look right at all.
We stirred it up and let it dry on the stir stick. Dried to the correct color.
Don't let the color in the can fool you.

Sprayout cards are the only way to judge a color. Colors with white in them especially will darken significantly as they dry. I've noticed that this can continue slightly for nearly a day, though it's 95% there after an hour or so.
