My SPI bedliner stash is gone

Brad J.

Oldtimer
I've had 2 gallons of SPI bedliner that I bought when SPI quit making it. I bought a wrecked shop truck so I sprayed the two gallons in a short bed and tailgate. I had trouble with it chunking up and ended up scrambling to strain it through my blast cabinet screen. Ruined it but I saved the 2 gallons. For a minute I thought it was all waste. It was getting old, I think the date was 2012 or 2014. One of the two. The tip in gun kept getting plugged with pieces of crap from the bottom of the can.

I sure miss this stuff. Best sprayable stuff I've ever used. We did my dad's truck back on 2011 and it still looks great. If your bored Barry maybe you can whip up a batch for us to packrat on our shelves.

I just sprayed the last of my SPI bed liner last week. I had to pull out a tech manual I had stashed from 2014 for the mixing instructions. I was worried about the activator, but it worked fine.

Glad I'm not the only one doing this!!!

One time I though Barry had mentioned his friend may pick up the formula and make it, but I haven't heard anything since.

I had to dig into my memory banks. I rotate the tech manuals and no longer had one with bedliner in it. It was easy to remember the 2minute mixing because it sucked just as much now as it did back then.

Great product and I was waiting for Barry's buddy to revive it also. Guess Barry will have to make it again for getting our hopes up.

He vetoed it due to difficulty.
SPI started with 2 bed liners and IF I was to come out with one it would be like the other one I did, a rubber one.
Big mistake then was a gallon came with a baby food jar of paste activator so made mixing critical and inexperienced people would not mix enough and i got tired of replacing product.
In 1997 SPI bought a trailer and I 180'd the fenders and slapped three coats of the rubber on, sold that trailer last year as we wore it out and the fenders still looked great but years ago i put a 12' gash in the liner when I hit a tree. (not my fault the tree jumped in front of me. yep!)

Problem is its was such a small part of our business, room at this point is critical and if that is not enough working on a new clear and not had labels done yet as we are trying to figure where to put it.
This year will be a year of deleting some things that just get in the way and do not really need as far as turns.

New clear?????

Actually i have the formula done as been playing and adjusting for 3 or 4 months.
All i need to do is make small batch of activator i changed for 10th time
To give out some for testing.
But last week this taking a back seat as a company approached me about making something for them that's never been done, they been working on it for 5 to 7 years and cant get it where they want it.
So got new job and this will consume a lot of my time or a bust i think i can make it.
