Need to replace my FLG2

Its been a while since I refinished a car and the model of my newest spray gun (Finishline 2) shows that. I am redoing a 74 Camaro BC/CC in an "oxygen tented" garage not a booth. I have a 60 gallon compressor 11.9cfm @90. I used the FLG 2 with the EZ liner system and gotten good results with SS and BC/CC jobs in the past, but in all cases I consider the gun just a method to lay an even amount of material to cut and buff, I have no illusions of getting a good out of the gun finish in my garage. I was going to reuse it but it needs some parts which are hard to find and expensive so I am looking to replace it.

Previously I used the 1.6 tip to shoot epoxy and k36, the 1.4 for SS or BC/CC. Now I would like to get a cheap gun for primer work and replace the FLG2 with something newer. Initially I was just going to get the latest finishline 4 the 670, its gotta be better than the 15 y/o 2 with its plastic tips, no? Anyway I found lots of critics, I assume many from people who do this for a living.

Considering I'm only looking for a gun for a single project, my compressor size and "booth" is there a better option out there around the same price point as the FLG-670 (finishline 4) ~$200? What about an LVLP gun like the Iwata W400 Bellaria? Would an LVLP work better with my compressor and the limited ventilation in my garage or stick with HVLP? Am I going to get talked into spending extra for an LPH400? :)

My search found limited comments on the Bellaria, mostly negative on the FLG4 and nobody looking to upgrade from an FLG-2. :p For fun I attached an image of my most recent garage job albeit it was over a decade ago and now lives in Switzerland.

I just bought an Iwata W-400 classic new on eBay for about $200. I believe It is from Japan. I just sprayed my project and was pleased. I don’t ever hear anyone mention them on here but I felt like it was hard to beat for the money.

The Iwata Bellaria is far above the FLG and is used by a lot of experienced painters with great results, I am sure you would be very happy with it and with correct fluid, air and fan adjustments you can slick out the clear. I use an Iwata LPH 400 for clear only and it is a great gun. Good luck on your purchase.

Based on what I am reading, an LVLP gun would work better with my compressor, but what is the tradeoff? Will it behave drastically different than my old FLG HVLP? For a solid base & clear would a 1.4mm nozzle be the best all around? I'm looking at the W-400-144G.

The W-400 with 1.4 fluid tip will suit base and clear just fine, 1.4 is what I use on the LPH 400. The W - 400 will be fine with your compressor size just make sure you have moisture controlled.

If you are limited on air, I suspect the flg4 is not for you. Mine uses a lot of air and now I only use it for primer. I just was never impressed with it.

I purchased an Iwata LPH 400 because I was not impressed with the flg4 snd have loved it. It was less than $400 on Amazon.

I didn't think I was limited with my old FLG2 but I had nothing to compare too except a Binks 7.

The LPH400 is HVLP and $362 for a 1.4, the W400 Bellaria is LVLP and $222. I'm leaning toward the LVLP gun to play it safe with my compressor and keep some cash in my pocket.

I have both an LPH400 1.4 and a W400 1.4 that I use. The W400 is just stupid simple to set up and does a really good job on clears. For the money, that is hard to beat. So I'll use the LPH for base and the W400 for clear. Now if I was going to buy 1 gun, it'd be the LPH400. I actually found that one on eBay years ago for $200. It's been rock solid.
