Nibs in base, can I wet sand out and touch up just the impacted area before I clear?

Hi - Shot DBC base coat today, martinique blue which has metallic in it. I noticed I have a few nibs in it. Can I wet sand them out with 2000 and just touch up / dust over the impacted area with more base coat? I am concerned that it will be blotchy and I would have been better off just leaving well enough alone and clearing over them. Clear is going to be SPI universal clear. Thanks.

Yes, you can. Depending how many areas, it may be easier to spray another coat or two. You could spray the spots, and if they look fine, just clear it. If it looks a little uneven, or there is a lighter "ring" around the spots, the easiest fix would be to spray another coat overall. If you have any intercoat clear, a coat over your spots will give a better visual of how they will look cleared, or it can be used 50/50 with your base to blend out a little further also.

Great, thank-you tex, will give it a shot. I had also read that some people just clear over the nibs and polish / buff them out. Guess it depends on the size & color of the nib and the level of paint job you are looking for. I am going for a show car, but not concourse. It will be driven and enjoyed.
