Off Topic Coyotes

Might not be feasible in your area but, get a donkey. Coyotes scared of donkeys. There's a donkey at the end of my street. Everyone always says omg omg you have a donkey on your street?. Yes. We also have zero Coyotes
Im in the country and have always wondered why so many people have donkeys; I found out six months ago coyotes will never go in the same area as a donkey.
It breaks my heart when I see signs on the road with pictures of missing cat or dogs, get a clue they were a snack
Get rid of them; one nearby ran to open the front door and snatch the dog while the woman was on the porch and could do nothing.

The only good thing they do is they love 25lbs coons, but that is how they get rabbies, and there have been many attacks on people during the day by rabid ones and they do serious damage to women and most men.
If you dont want to kill them, call fish and game; they will handle it.

Do some searching on Craigslist, etc. There's a bunch of guys looking for land to hunt "dogs" on. Don't be surprised if you are able to find some real coyote guys and they show up at night with IR/Thermal optics, BIG rifles with even BIGGER silencers and calls that'll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Federal stamps for the silencers are a must, the guys should show you their credentials. Trust me when I say this, they're hunting every step they take, and yes even in daylight - you just don't see them. Oh, and I think a drug habit is cheaper that dog hunting!
Subsonic, silenced .223's will do the trick. It's louder when it hits the dog than when it's fired.
Until you find some guys keep dogs and cats up at night and supervise them when out.
We say that the only good coyote is a dead coyote...........Happy hunting!

So what are some good entry level rifles? I know very little about guns. I have a Sig Sauer that I took in on trade in exchange for some work I did last year. Today a guy offered me what I'd consider a very good price for it and it's got me considering selling it.
What would be a good entry level rifle? What about a good value handgun? What about ammo?

Honestly a decent AR, Ruger and S&W both have entry level ones for good prices. I picked up my S&W for around $649, although prices do fluctuate. Ammo is cheap, parts are cheap, cool accessories are cheap and it's a solid varmint caliber.

Shine has me looking at pellet/ air rifles now - wow ! Even come with a suppressor (silencer). ! They’ve come a loooong way Since was a kid !

I had no idea they were that powerful- I think I should be able to shoot an air rifle in town - sounds like it’ll take down a coyote

I thought about an air rifle but they cost as much or more than a good AR15 style rifle. I like the of idea of the AR-15 for more than just shooting coyotes. Around here if something happens you are pretty much on your own for at least 20-30 minutes.
Guy offered me $1500 for the Sig. I have half of that in it so I think I may sell it.
Raymond, I was looking at a Ruger like you describe today. Seemed like a pretty good deal. What about a lever action rifle? Not as trendy as an AR15 but they seem like they would be good for coyotes. And any thoughts on a good basic handgun?

Googling, there are so many choices and variations of guns it's kinda confusing to me, being I don't have any experience to speak of. That's why hopefully you fellas can recommend a good basic affordable handgun to me as well.

Can you get deals secondhand? Like at a pawn shop or gun store?

In town you want shotgun for protection .. Collateral damage can jam you up . My pellet gun was 119.00 . Will ruin a rabbits weekend from 20 yards .

Yeah the air rifles of today are not your Daisy 10 pump you had as a kid. A buddy of mine has been trying to get me to invest in a AirForce air rifle. He has a few. Texan 50 cal, and a couple others. Super fun to shoot, semi-auto, but he has a lot invested in a special high pressure portable compressor, similar to a SCUBA tank compressor. He fills a bunch of tanks and has hours of fun. The hand pump method got old fast.

mine is a brakeover single shot . nice gun . wooden stock , scope and a sound suppressor. i bought it for the garden . damn rabbits will wipe out your cantaloupes . they chew into a new one every morning . pellets are a lot cheaper than ammo .

there is a species of buzzard that they have on the endangered list . rightfully so because ranchers dont give a damn what kind of varmint is killing their cattle . every calf is a loss of 2500 . one heifer and calf lost is 5k down the tube .

Decided on a Glock 17 for a handgun. Found a good deal on one locally. Been meaning to buy one, have put it off for a long time. And oddly enough my neighbor who I first talked with about the coyotes wants the Sig I took as trade on some work. It's a nice gun, never fired, scope, all the bells and whistles. I can sell it to him, get the pistol and a entry level Ruger AR I found locally and have money left over. An older Gent that I know (he wants to date my Mom:)) is going to help me hunt them. So it's working out. Just going to keep an eye on my little dog till we do.
