Paint Gun Thread Sealant

I came across a good used paint gun which has damaged threads where the air connection fitting attaches to the mini air regulator/guage or hose connection at the gun. I removed this fitting from the handle and have a replacement. This fitting was difficult but not impossible to remove. It appears to have been originally installed in the gun by using some sort of lock tite or plumbers dope. Can anyone tell me the proper thread sealant to use for installing this fitting into the handle of the paint gun?

I use Teflon tape. I've always been afraid to use anything else. Don't know what they put in the sealants. Don't like to take chances with my spray guns.

Thanks Dub. I agree with not taking chances. I had considered that option and wanted to make sure there was not a specific compound or agent that was used for a specific reason. I do know in air lines its important you do not let the teflon tape overlap the end of the fitting to avoid small pieces entering the air system and components. I have this question posted on several web sites and with over one hundred "reads", you are the first one to respond. Teflon Tape it will be! Thanks again.

I'm sure it's just the way you worded it. I've never heard of or seen any sealant made just for this purpose. Doesn't mean there isn't one, just means I've never seen it.

Enjoy the site! :)

Before I used teflon tape on mine I researched and found a site that showed different substances and what they were immune to and what reacted with them. Pretty much there isn't anything that you would put through the gun that would react with teflon. It is probably your safest bet.

If you ever disassemble it again, you will notice that the tape has turned clear where it comes in contact with solvents. That is normal, and doesn't change the effectiveness of the tape.

Understood, and the site looks great! I'm an old lacquer fan from the 60's and working my way into B/C to restore two 56 Ford F-100s so need all the help I can get. So much good information to consider when I read thru all the forum subjects! Appreciate the information.

Some of the really cheap guns rely on a lot of that white sealer to get them to seal with threads that are machined so poorly that once you disassemble them it's often tough to get them to seal back up again. I have also used teflon tape-just make sure it's positioned right so no fragments will get loose in the air or fluid paths.

Thanks Bob, Will make sure I watch for that! Appreciate the feedback. Only forum I ever got any responses for this question.
