Great color, I wish I could get something like that in a non-candy...probably not available and wouldn't get same appearance/effect.

I'm sure there is something out there. I just didnt have the time to find it. I did alot of spay-outs of various oranges and he was always comparing it to the candy effect of this one. I explained to him over and over about the repair issues of such a color. and it just wouldnt sink in. I spent about a year trying to find a color, lol.

I hate the repair process and I hate painting a car when its assembled.

He originally wanted to do it the HOK Tangelo Pearl. Wish he would have stayed with that.

Thank you Strangersfaces, it will have a white pearl interior, black dash, and a white top. The original color is like a burnt orange color.

Before stumbling upon that lovely brown A8, I'd looked at photos of the Buick in Bittersweet Mist Metalic. My opinion, a bit blah, and leaning towards brown. Learning you intend to emphasize orange aspect, have you considered the SPI Orange, such as used on Jim Keunemen's show winning Coronet http://www.spiuserforum.com/index.php?threads/1968-coronet-thanks-to-barry-and-spi.5352/

Orangejuiced86, is the HOK Tangelo Pearl easy to repair? How does it compare to the candy the customer has chosen? Is Urekem any good for custom colors? Thank you Strangersfaces for all the great links, I appreciate everyone's help!

Tangelo wouldnt be that hard to repair at all. Its a factory pack type color from HOK. It has a completly different look from candy, but equally as appealing IMO.

I used tangelo on this mountain bike I did.

Sorry for all of the pics, just trying to give you a good idea of the color.

Ive used Urekrem on a few projects, but not a on a car. Ive done a few golfcarts with it and a quad. I dont know enough about its longevity to use it on a car.

Here are a few other oranges I tested out while trying to find a color for the sky.

Some great colors Orangejuiced86. How is the brand Epic, any good? Is the tangelo heavy in metallic, or a medium metallic?...does it have any flop or change under different viewing angles, face/pitch differences? I do like the looks of the candy, the way it has shadowing and depth, but I want something that can be repaired in the event of an accident or scratch, etc.

I cant really say anything about the epic stuff honestly. The only pieces I painted with it are what you see in those pics.

The tangelo has a lot of pearl in it. It looks great in the sun, in the shade it just looks like a bright ass orange.

Hi Orangejuiced86, does the tangelo have any metallic in it or just pearl? I'm looking for some flop and pearl as well as a medium grain metallic appearance. I love the look of the candy, but I realize it's next to impossible to repair.

tangelo has a fine gold pearl in it. its very fine and doesnt have any sparkle. just has a gold glow or reflection in the sun.

Thank you Jim, any recommendations on a similar orange, but with some sparkle and flop? I am steering away from candies based upon everyone's advice.

Dan, find an orange (solid) base that you like, then try some of the various pearl oranges available. Should give you what you are looking for and be repairable. PPG Sunset Orange Pearl is close to what you are looking for.

Guess I should show the finisihed pics.

You would be wise to steer away from a candy paint job for sure. One stripe and it's game over you must move like a robot and make every pass exactly like the one before it a whole lot can go bad on a complete paint candy job on an auto. There are alot of really nice looking examples shown here and alot more at the jobber, if they have a book of colors take it outside and look it over, Auston Martin has some really nice looking colors.
