Painting over powder coat

I bought a powder coated tilt steering column for my el Camino project.
I thought since it was powder coated, the finish would be awesome
It was not awesome

Fine. I'll make it awesome.

Thinking I'll just sand the powder coat flat, epoxy it, then base and clear. Any problems with that, that I'm not thinking of?

180 or 320 and epoxy.

I've painted over powder coat a few times. On areas that don't see alot of sunlight I just red pad and went straight to base. Worked ok.
