polyester primer

Slammed, don't forget that once you activate the SS and get it sufficiently stirred you don't have much time to get it sprayed, it kicks off like bondo and you'll have a big headache, so I don't think you'll want to spend time trying to reduce it.

yes sir, I appreciate it. but If I use 3.0 tip can I get away not having to reduce the slick sand? or is reducing still recommended

I have never reduced it, And with a 3.0 cap youll be fine. Dont over think it, just mix it quickly, and dont waste any time, just put it on there

I recently began using slick sand. New to me.
I used our usual sata primer gun. 1.8tip i think...no good. Recomended by another user to go bigger tip. He uses 2.5 on an iwata but recomended a 3.0.
So we bought a 3.0 iwata. Works way better to lay it down smoother.

Lots of good info here for someone that's never used SS before - even if a year+ old thread. Have some SS on order - going to use a 2.5 gun. Are there any guidelines on the can regarding coverage? Anyone want to venture a guess what sqft a qt will cover in a "average" coat? Is the "default" mix a qt at a time or can smaller volumes be mixed?
Can one activate the SS in the gun cup and get it mixed well enough - would that even save any time? Shine, I'm in Texas also - going to be 100 deg for at least the next week - is it too hot to shoot SS?

I don’t think you want to be mixing in the gun cup imho….

Spray early in the morning and move like the wind. Only mix one cup of poly at a time. Clean gun after each cup is sprayed. My gun cup is a quart so it works well for me.

your going to have to shoot at first light. i mean everything ready to go , mix it pour it in your gun and run . no time to tack or look around . clean the gun or use a ketchup type bottle to rinse the nozzle out. i wipe the cup , rinse a little the squirt some through the nozzle. if you dont your second coat will look like shit .

TDS says 1 gallon will cover 1200 square feet. I would judge that down a bit to account for any waste, residue in the gun etc.
I have mixed batches smaller than a quart.
The gallon can comes with 4 tubes of hardener, 1 tube per quart. The tubes are marked off, ounces or grams.
Just mix in 1 cup increments and use the appropriate increment of the tube.
