PPG buying Axalta?

The cost of base has far exceeded what insurance companies pay. Had a bumper to spray red pearl and was low on 1 toner, so I just ordered 8oz of DBC. The cost was more than I got paid for all the material on the ticket. This is one of the reasons I feel the quality of most body shop repairs has gone down the last 10-15 years. Most shops will buy whatever they can afford to make a profit, which leads to cheaper or second line products used throughout the process, from filler to clear. End result is something that may last 2-3 years, yet you're supposed to warranty it for life. I've been bit more than once trying something more affordable, and paid for it dearly in the end. I've just about quit doing any insurance work unless it is for a repeat customer or there is a lot of profit in it, which is rare any more. I would rather do a customer pay job and use whatever material I choose.

Just what we need, one big Paint Company that will own everything and jack up prices even more. Standox has gotten stupid expensive since Dupont sold out to Axalta. Some of the pearls are over eight bucks an ounce now.
Since Sherwin Williams bought Valspar they are the biggest paint manufacturer in the world at 13.6 billion. They now own.
Sherwin William's
Acme
Martin Senior
Valspar
DeBeer
Prospray
Matrix
House Of Kolor

Plus the cheap versions like Dimension and Crossfire. Not to mention Industrial lines and house paint.

I've been in the PBE business for 40 some years, and there is one cardinal rule the big companies live by.
If your competitor is eating your lunch, buy them and make them disappear or kill the quality and make it, you're low in line.
It is a long list of companies a lot of you never heard of that are gone.
