Prices.

The people I know that do car lot work, for them it's always the cheapest stuff out there. Thats because dealers will pay only so much for something and the less they spend on supplies, thats more left in the pot for them. Which , btw isn't as much as you'd think. They try to make their living by doing volume. Which means quality work doesn't exist.

Quality vs price is an exponential curve, where as quality approaches 100%, price approaches infinity. Realistically, most collision work falls into the "elbow" of the curve, where quality is maximized within the constraint of price shooting up too drastically. "Lot lizards" might live at the bottom of the curve, and restoration shops nearer the upper portion, but nobody lives at 100%, that's the realm of the divine.

I wasn't trying to demean anyone who does this type of work. Simply saying that they are working within what they have the time and money to do. Like shine has said before "you can't sell a thousand dollar bull for five hundred dollars and expect to keep the ranch for too long"
It's a fact that you can't do much with very little money.
