Proper way to prep SMC

What is the best way to prep a SMC front bumper cover? I have sanded the old paint with 180 grit. Should I start with Epoxy or the regular build 2K primer? I have some small scratches that could use the fill of the regular build.

Epoxy then 2K, then seal with epoxy is how I would tackle it.

Mine is a 2000 Trans Am, but GM F bodies and Corvettes and I'm sure others.

You're right. The front and rear bumpers and fenders are urethane. The hood, doors and decklid are made of SMC and the quarters are steel. Is there any thing I should consider now that I know the bumper is urethane? Will adhesion promoter be required?

No, just make sure the products you use are all flexible enough. Some urethane primers will crack easily if used on urethane, and most basecoats need the addition of a small amount of isocyanate to make them flexible. SPI clears are good to go with no additives.

SPI epoxy will work well, but in some cases will not have the build necessary to level repair work if any.

I don't know if SPI regular 2K is OK for urethane or not. I suspect it is as long as film build doesn't get too crazy.

Regular 2K is perfect for urethane/flexible/plastic bumpers. No flex agent is needed with anything we make.
