The motor went out on my QT5. Called a repair shop and they said it's a proprietary unit so I have to get it from Quincy. But, I see the exact model number and specs on line. Do you think it's really a special motor or is it a marketing ploy?

My Quincy has a Baldor motor on it, I've seen them with Weg motors too. I would think that nothing else you would be able to get something very close to stock.

I found the Baldor on line. I'll check that out. Didn't seem right that all the numbers matched but it was proprietary.

An electric motor is an electric motor. As long as you replace it with something with similar specs and you can get proper belt alignment and pulley fit, you'll be fine.

For whatever reason the shop didn't want your business.

elec motors go by a standardized # called frame size. look on your motor spec plate. it will be stamped on there. my motor on mine for instance is a 215T. this frame size is hp, shaft size, mounting plate bolt pattern, rpm and a bunch of other specs. all you need to do is look up that frame size motor and you can replace yours with it no problem. get a baldor or leeson motor.

Mine is a 184t

What do you think? Going for $400. Seen others for $650-750. The price difference kind of concerns me about what I'm getting.

You said the motor went out? Burn up or just hums.............maybe a motor repair shop can look at it. are there 2 compactiors on the motor?

Yes it could be just the start capacitor failed as AAE says. An easy repair for a motor repair shop.
