Personally, I use 50% overlap for everything. It's easier for me to keep the tip of the spray gun centered on the edge of the previous pass.
I like that idea. I am on my 5th paint job and this sounds like a great way to be more consistent. All of my previous paint work has turned out nice in the end but I was very inconsistent and did many thing different each time. I have slowly started to learn the complete routine. I do have a question that i can’t seem to understand. When you do your first pass and drop the gun down 50% wouldn’t your top 50% of your 1st pass only have 1 pass of paint? That’s a very confusing question. I can’t seem to describe what’s in my mind any other way. I am close to getting ready to paint my first metallic and I know I need to be more precise.Personally, I use 50% overlap for everything. You could center your first pass on the edge of the panel. . Good question….I like that idea. I am on my 5th paint job and this sounds like a great way to be more consistent. And, watch the coverage in the overlap, not the first pass area. That helped me a lot.You could center your first pass on the edge of the panel. . Good question….

I center first pass off the panel. Also when I'm spraying an area like windshield posts. Instead of a long pass from up to down, I do passes side to side and work my way up, or down. That way you are utilizing the entire fan pattern instead of only the center. Kind of hard to explain.I like that idea.
