Sanding Block Wisdom

I have a set of the AFS blocks and I really like them. Other than that, I make all of my blocks out of hardwood scraps from my shop. I have an edge sander that I use to flatten the faces.

For concave curves, I make blocks out of wood, PVC pipe, metal pipe, and whatever hard shape I can find and modify as needed.

Of course, having the tools to shape wood and plastic makes life easier. Without them, I suppose that I would have to look at the manufactured blocks.

For curves, I use soft blocks with coarse grit paper.
Pressing softly with long sweeps will give a straight surface.
(at my age I don't use anything hard anymore)
