Sata Jet 4000B HVLP

A friend of mine closed shop and is retiring. He gave me his Sata 4000B HVLP. I know he used it for clear (Standox). It has a 1.3 nozzle and my understanding was that was not the best set up for that but he did put the clear down very nice with it. Just looking at the nozzle without measuring it appears to be a true 1.3, unlike the 5000B RP, 1.3 I have that some of us here determined those nozzles are actually north of 1.5 mm.
So I wanted to ask those who used that gun what their thoughts are about it? Good for base? My friend said no. What is it good for?
I have not experimented with it yet.

I'm surprised he didn't like it as a base gun. My experience with Sata's has been the HVLP's are excellent base guns and the RP's are excellent clear guns. The HVLP's never wanted to shoot clear very well and the RP's while they would shoot base would waste a lot of material.
The 1.3 is the size I've mainly used for base with Sata 2000's, Sata NR's and now using a 5500 HVLP I. The Sata 5000 RP 1.3 is my all time favorite clear gun.
The HVLP's will not shoot very wet and have excellent atomization, which in my experience is perfect for base. I have not used the 3000's or 4000's but generally Sata's are an evolution of the previous generation not a completely new product.

i have that gun in a 1.5. not that i shoot alot of base anymore but that is my base gun now and it seems to shoot base very well. better than my old lph400. the one thing it does shoot better than any other gun i have ever used is spi epoxy. it has such a soft fan that it does blow the craters into the epoxy.

His rep from where he bought paint & materials also wondered how & why he used that hvlp to shoot clear.
I will try it next time I shoot base. What at the gun air pressure?
