Satin black using SPI products?

I’m preparing my 1st SPI order, and I’m stuck on what to use to do the engine compartment and dash. Those areas were satin black. Do you guys use SPI products to achieve this or use another brand? My old man says he uses Hot Rod Black in those areas, but I’d like to use SPI if that’s an option.

The other SPI option is SPI 2201 Single stage matte black. It is durable and versitle in that you can vary the amount of gloss by how much activator you use. This is from the SPI Tech manual:
With a 4:1 mix you will end up with an egg
shell finish with 3-5% gloss. With a 6:1 mix you will have a nice flat black with about 1% gloss
(this is the most popular choice). With 8:1 mix you will have black with zero shine leaning to a
slight gray scale but its only noticeable if painted on a panel next to the other mix ratios of Matte
Black. SPRAY TEST PANELS FIRST so you choose the right mixing ratio for your application.

Very versatile product when you need to duplicate a certain gloss level.

the sem hr black looks good and is an ok product but the spi matte black is a higher quality. the sem stuff is weak chemically. it takes forever to lock up and become chemical resistant and when it does its resistance isnt great. i used it for awhile and that was really my only complaint. the spi stuff looks and works just like it but locks up quick like a premium ss or clear should. the spi will also stripe less although you would never see that anyway in an engine comp or dash. while i like spi blk epoxy and i think it would look fine in your eng compartment, i wouldnt use it on a dash or anything that is "in your face" all the time. a matte ss will always have a more even and nicer finished look.

Thank you! I don't know how I missed this. The dash in my firebird has an egg shell black finish that I want to replicate. I'll pick this up and try it on some test panels over SPI black epoxy.
