Scratches in clear

What is the best way to repair deep scratches 4”- 6” in length in the clear coat? The type that click when you run your finger nail across them. Thanks in advance.

If the scratches are that deep you'll need to scuff and shoot more clear, and maybe base if the old base is damaged. Even if the scratch doesn't go all the way to the base by the time you sand and buff it out the clear will be too thin to protect the base coat in that spot.

If it's in an out of the way spot, you might be able to touch it up then top with clear. Let that dry then sand it flat and buff. This only really works good with nonmetallic colors.

Thanks Mr Toolin! Theastronaut, I tried scuffing and clearing over the area earlier this week and the scratch is better but is still visible. Any suggestions? The paint Is Chryslers Absolute Metal which is a metallic paint.

You could try and mix a small amount of clear and dont sand the spot just clean good.
I use a #2 sword brush and ally a coat and do a coat, say every 45 ton90 mins, and can even do a third coat the next day.
Build the clear higher and let set for a few days sand smooth with 1500 wet hand buff.
I've done chips and scratches, and 90 % of the time, you're perfect. If not, redo it as a last resort.

Good advice. I'll try that when the situation arises.
