Seam sealer

I am doing an overall on a 55 Chevy that is completely striped and I removed all the old caulking around the drip rails. What is the best product to put in there ? I can't make seam sealer out of a caulking gun look worth a crap. Does it even need anything in there? Thanks.

I don't know about anyone else but the first thing I do is spray epoxy primer on bare metal.
After it cures for a day or so I will apply Lord Fusor 800EZ urethane seam sealer. This is an easy to apply sealer and can be worked with a brush to simulate factory appearance if desired. They also make 800DTM for applying over bare metal.

Try some epoxy based self leveling seam sealer. I use it all the time for drip rails. I mask the outlines first, then I put it in the drip rail and pass my finger on it, it will level itself afterwards, then I remove the tapes, depending on the product, you don't want it to harden with the tapes still in place. 3M, SEM, Fusor, Evercoat and many brands have such a product.

I prefer SEM #39777 -High Build Self Leveling Seam Sealer- but it does require the double barrel gun which is kinda pricey. The seam sealer itself is not cheap either- about $40 out the door here.
Do as Coronet and chevy_power say and also dam up the ends of the drip rails with tape to keep the sealer from running out. Also the SEM sealer is sandable so you can smooth it out if you need to.

I use SEM seam sealer as well, I prefer it over any other seam sealers I have used, I have had some major issues with the Fusor 1 part seam sealers, we applied it to a whole car and after a week you could rub it right off with your fingers, I also find that the SEM 2-part goes a LOT farther for some reason.

Wow, I have never had any problems like that. I'll give the SEM a try next time based on your recommendation.
