SL-C Carbon Dash Makover....

OJ86

"As I was saying.."
So I thought I was on the home stretch.....and the owner wasn't happy with all of the air pockets in the original carbon(this is as it was delivered) So after painting it once, it all had to be stripped and re-done.

What a life I lead........

Re-did all of the bodywork, primed it with Clausens "Sandy" poly primer. This is nice stuff IMO:

Final Primed it in black epoxy:

Took a few days to lay out the new carbon, had to do it in sections:

2 rounds of a clear poly topcoat... Duratec 904-061 - another really nice product...:

Sanded that down with 240/320/600 then painted and smashed on 4 coated of Euro:

Added some carbon to the front to add a little spice to the mix. Projects been 3 years, whats a couple of more hours of work:

Now, I just want to buzz it down and reclear it and it will be ready to install for the final time. Leaving it shiny this time around:

On this I did not use any type of vacuum. I just cut my templates, sprayed some 3m spray adhesive on the backside of the carbon piece I was laying out, let it set up for like 30 min, placed it there and then applied west systems epoxy resin with a foam roller and let it soak in real good.

The spray adhesive on the back help hold it in place and also helps hold the carbon twill in place also. Its not perfect, but none of the carbon on this car is so it blends in!

I do plan on trying my hand at vacuum bagging on some parts soon. It would have made the some of the other carbon wrapped parts I did much easier.

Learning curve.

Youll need a flange for tape, then all your materials like peel ply breather cloth etc.
The vacuum port also needs to be off the part as it leaves a mark.
Vacuum would be for structural, the way you did it was the right way.Nice work!
