SPI Epoxy on Rubber bumper

In the process of repairing a "real" rubber bumper. I had to peel the corner rubber away to attack the rust with electrolysis and then epoxy.

After gluing/attaching the rubber back on to the metal skeleton, I used SEM bumper bite to fill/level the surface.

Question is.....Did I make a mistake and not epoxy primer the bumper before I started to work the bumper with the Bumper Bite filler? Can I move forward at this unfinished filler stage(remove excess filler) and epoxy primer the whole bumper and then apply the last additional filler to perfect the bumper and then spray a final epoxy layer to seal all filler? Then top with SEM Bumper Coater?

Side question - what is the almond-colored filler in the corner? That is from a previous repair (probably in the 1990s) that has held up very well.

thank you!

It doesn't look to me like your seams were beveled out at much. Usually I would recommend lots of beveling and tapering out those seams and filling them with a flexible repair material that has better properties than a finishing putty like Bumper Bite, which is intended for filling small imperfections, not seams. That tan stuff might be a proper flexible repair material based on epoxy or urethane, which is what you ought to be using in this stage of repair, imo.

As to your question, epoxy is not a bad idea, but is probably optional on a material like that where adhesion is not a concern.
