SPI epoxy or seam sealer first?

Hello all,

I am a novice and have read many times on this great forum that epoxy should be done first before filler. Does this apply for seam sealer too?

I ground out all the old seam sealer and a little rust at the base of the pillars and dash metal. Epoxy or seam sealer after I strip the rest of the paint?

I’ll be ordering my SPI epoxy this week

My experience has been, when in doubt, epoxy it first.
It makes a good workable surface over just about anything
for just about anything.

Thanks JC. That’s what I’m starting to understand. SPI epoxy first and everything goes on top of the epoxy, then epoxy over everything again before base and clear.

Just like everyone uses the spi epoxy tech sheet as bible, you also pick a seam sealer and follow their rules the same way. Somebodies rules are going to be broken at some point.

ha ha..That's what is great about this forum... You can see in the posts what happens when you when you break one manufacturer's rules, good or bad.
