SPI Reds & Orange Codes

If this has been addressed already please point me to the thread as I didn't find it. Has anyone done spray-outs of the different SPI colors and then used a Spectrograph to find the closest OEM code they match? I think this would be very helpful to know.

With the reds a color camera (spectrophotometer) will get you in the ballpark on a color. 2-3 shades either way. Red is notoriously hard to match with a camera. The orange is pretty unique. Most guys on here don't have a camera. Last shop I was at I had access to one but no more.

Barry has stated that he developed the three reds to be very close to many (20 or 30) of the various reds out there for overall refinishing. None of them are designed to replace a specific OEM color. Some colors they will be close, probably close enough to blend. Others not as much. They are designed for overall work. Knowing specific codes that they could replace should only factor in if you are doing collision. In that case you are better off using the correct paint code.

You can request sprayout chip samples from SPI. They will be happy to send them to you for free.,
