Sprayouts

The ones I get from the Jobber are usually a medium gray, pretty close to the sealer I normally use. If the ones you have are a different shade than what you seal with either use some of the sealer you plan on using or simply spray more coats to get full coverage that isn't influenced by the color of the sealer. If it's close (your color on the sprayout) to the color of the car you can count on being able to blend it.
I'll be honest though I rarely use them as I just count on blending and if it's close that's good enough with a good blend.

They are black and white for a reason, you want enough coats to make them completely disappear
to get the true color. You want total hiding on your color, primer underneath shouldn't matter.

I just powdercoat primer on 24x24 sheets and cut them as needed. Just saves the mixing of epoxy every time I need a chip. Black and gray, the only primer colors I would use on a car.

Yep. I understand the coverage. Just wondering if keeping all layers the same would be beneficial.

One reason I use sprayouts is so I have a library of the different alternates. Next time I get that color, I pull out my sprayouts so I know what I have. I used to do one on every single car, but I have gotten lazy, plus I don't do near the volume I used to. I just spray the cards like they are, which are black to white, and note how many coats it took to get decent coverage. This can help knowing if I will have to spray an extra coat or two to cover a primer spot, without solely relying on my eyes in the booth.

I keep a record of every color I spray, I use old gift cards, like the credit cards, and spray primer on a bunch of them at one time.
I drill a hole in the top center and keep them on a pull chain in order by color.
I write the car brand & code on the back, when I get a car to work on I pull out my samples and see if any match.
Lets me know if I already have some of that paint.
I have a lot of them, I have one chain with just silvers on it.
