The Lightest Silver Single Stage for Allison and Wheels? Hurry!

My Allison tranny is out just rebuilt. I am re-doing the truck, blasting the frame, bodywork etc. over the next few months. Tranny is clean (steamed) but case is not blasted, it is aluminum of course. I am thinking I should paint the tranny now, and coat the floor from below while it is accessible. Any ideas?

I mentioned the lightest silver because that is what color I would like to paint the wheels and I might as well try it out on the transmission (and the PTO and pump). What is a realistic way to prep everything? I am assuming that white epoxy is step one, and I would prefer SS for the ease of things.

This is a work truck, but my standards are pretty high, moreso for the longevity than a concours appearance.

The truck is a crew with a Plumbers Body the size of a small barn, so it is going to take a lot of paint... I am not using the silver on the truck or body, maybe on accent striping. Thanks for the help. I need to start getting this thing back together next weekend.

I'm not where I can look at my sprayout cards, so unfortunately I can't hurry to give you an answer. I can say that typically I like to use a very fine metallic on transmissions, because to see the sparkle to me just looks dumb on a mechanical part. So if it was mine to do I probably would not use the same stuff for transmission and wheels. Also I would probably do the trans in BC/CC because it's easier to get the look I would want.

Thanks crash. I am not looking for a work of art under my truck, but clean as possible and able to spot and trace a leak work for me. This is why I am not going with SPI black epoxy. (except on the frame). I want a light silver for the wheels ( I will never polish aluminum wheels, forget that). I figure going with it first on the tranny will give me some feel for it. I am a novice. I have no problem going BC/CC, especially being that I will be using up the clear sometime soon, but a SS that is acceptable for the wheels is fine too. I am trying to locate aluminum dually wheels in rough shape so I can sandblast/prime/paint if I can, over using stock steelies.

From doing some more research around the Forum, it looks like I'm going to end up going with base coat /clear coat. In another thread someone had asked about a very light colored silver metallic and Jim C replied by saying he was happy with using Wanda, code 2004. I see that there is a Keystone about half hour from me that should be able to supply Wanda. It looks like Wanda may be a decent choice to go with for base possibly for the whole job. I'll drop a line to the Keystone store in the morning and see if they can supply it. I'll get my other supplies from SPI.

I was at the shop today and I see that one of the lightest silvers I have personally sprayed is Ford YN.

Tried calling a Keystone 10 minutes from where I worked today. 2 calls 4 hours apart and never got an answer if they carried Wanda. Counter guy said something about the paint guy not returning his messages or emails? Was the paint guy locked in the basement alone all day? I'm a little concerned for him.

I've not known Keystone to be a serious supplier. They sell lots of mediocre stuff in my opinion. Like a jumped-up JC Whitney.

I can't say enough good things about the Greensboro NC Keystone. Last Collision Shop I worked at we got all our aftermarket parts from them. Delivered stuff to us daily. Big orders or small. Had a full line of paint and body products as well.

I just emailed Wanda an hour ago. I gave them my number and told them to have their local rep call me, to see who is actively ordering product. Two of their listed suppliers near here both have websites, but absolutely nothing about Wanda product line. Can't wait for their response, if any. Should be a good laugh for the end of the day.

Still no word from Wanda on active suppliers in my area. I hope I spelled my zip code correctly. They might have wrapped things up early for the holiday. I am pretty sure when they get back they will be sending me a tee shirt.

Honestly it's like Covid lowered the bar and a lot of people are just crappier now because it's the "new normal."

Jim C has been pretty clear in the past about this. Wanda has zero support. The Reps aren't even allowed to answer questions about it. Why? I don't know.
Best bet is go to the Wanda site and lookup the Distributors in your area and call them yourself. You will not hear back from Wanda I'm pretty sure. Motobase LV is another option at that price point.

No clear will stand up to heavy abuse. That being said, Universal remains more flexible/softer. Euro is easier to get to lay out (for me at least) and is less millage per coat depending on how you reduce it. Both are very good clears.

Find the Distributor yourself. Enter your location and a myriad of places will pop up.
