The "screech" when wet sanding.

Everything is sanding fine, then you hear it, that high pitched screech, then you want to start throwing things. I gave up the bucket of water for a spray bottle which I though we eliminate the problem, but its still happening. I'm sanding outside, but can't see how "grit" can get airborne and find its way between the sandpaper and body panel. It has also happened on the body itself which is inside the garage and never been outside since clearcoated. The only thing I can figure its the sandpaper (black ice) loading up with clearcoat then balling up to great a hard chunk. This is 2+ week old clear coat. Any opinions on how to prevent this?

I've tried Jim C's method with some samples of the yellow film discs and tolex, but wanted to get a head start on these panels while waiting for more of that stuff to be delivered.

Here are pics of the scratches and finished job of medium red and black strip on the hood.

i have a 1/4 in hose with a bug sprayer nozzle on it . it also has a fuel filter on it. i keep the panel flooded and rinsed. i do all my sanding in the booth .

Does the fuel filter work well? Would be a whole lot cheaper than those dedicated well water filters.

works good. stops all the crap that comes out of the hose. any water supply is full of sand, rust grit . the 1/4 in hose is easy to work with .

The filter is a great idea. Kind of embarressed I have never thought of it. I would rather use a bucket with a little dawn than my hose. At least the trash settles to the bottom.

I see a filter for my hose in the future. :))

i have a small 1/4 hose in my booth that is about 10-12 ft long. it's clear hose i got at ace . i like to keep the car rinsed so when i'm done sanding it's clean . i use a clear fuel filter and it catches all kinds of stuff. i learned 30 years ago to not use a bucket. damn cottonwood tree blooms float and have a sharp burr on them .
