Trouble finding basecoat

I have a 1970 gmc truck I’m trying to paint factory color. It’s ochre code 511. I’ve only found it locally in Diamont for $1200 a gallon which is way too much! And shopline for $150 a gallon which is way too cheap!

I read a lot use Wanda but the local distributor said that paint code is too old.

Does anyone have any knowledge about T.a.m.c.o basecoat or General paint company?

They have the color I’m just not familiar with those brands.

Give Chad a call at Autorod Technologies/ChadsPaintSuppy. He sell Motobase/Motocryl and Wanda. Feel pretty certain he will be able to mix the color in one of those two lines. Motobase is a good basecoat (Motocryl is the SS) that is priced very reasonably. I would do that before using the brands you mentioned.

Yep, Chad is where I got the paint for this '69 C10:

If you are not able to get it from Chad's for some reason, I can mix it in my Color by Design system. It is a good matching system for older car colors and fleet, not so much for newer colors as they have much fewer metallic sizes and pearl colors on their toners. I find no formula in my Standox system.

I think this color crosses to WA5202, it's also sometimes called Spanish Gold, but I'm not able to make it in anything of good quality.

Thank you for the help. I was able to get a gallon of Wanda in that color.

However I was wondering if I could tint Wanda paint with a little bit of SPI white basecoat? Or just wait to get some Wanda tints?

The jobber you got the color from should be able to supply you with a bit of toner from the formula for minimal cost.
