Turkey Rod Run Daytona

Spent a few hours at the rod run this wknd. Saw alot of cars and alot of bad paint jobs. Saw this one numbers matching 69 Charger 500, frame-off resto. Looked really nice until you got up on the drivers side sail panel. Looked like a classic Ospho paint blister. They were asking $85,000.00!! I would expect an absolute perfect paint job for that kind of money. Another car had been restored, think it was a 68 or 69 Plymouth Satelite. Light beige, looked good until you got close. They didn't even sand and buff with way too much orange peel and alot of trash in it. Can't remember what they were asking for it but I'm sure it was too much. Wonder what my 2002 Astro van will be worth 20 years from now? LOL

I see this all the time. One car show I was entered at, the best paint award went to a nissan 240sx with a skyline motor swap. A dark blue color. Engine bay was slicked out also. It had a nice job on it, but right on top of the radiator support there was a big spot that just jumped out at you. Looke like a sand through in the primer and the base cooked and they just cleared over it. I mean that engine bay was one of the focal points of that car because of the skyline motor that was decked out with chrome and polished parts. You could definately tell it was a money no object type of car.

There were plenty of other nice jobs at the show that didn't have a flaw like that. Nothing is perfect......but cmon. lol.

An no, I am definately not bitter because my car didn't win anything.

I think alot of checkbook restorer's just don't know what their paying for or maybe don't care as long as they can turn a profit.
A "frame off" restoration on a 69 Charger??? LOL
Thats what the for sale sign said ...

I see this all the time. I'd like to meet the painters and hand them a long block! I've talked to car owners that talk up their paint like it's 100 point, and it waves at you from across the street. I think the general public doesn't notice what we notice... It's really a shame that they pay good money and get quick dealer quality.
