Universal clear—model cars too

Something a little simpler and in a smaller scale, 1/24 Fujimi Ferrari 250 GTO.
Worth slightly less than 70 million dollars
Two coats of universal clear reduced 30% and shot through an Iwata Eclipse airbrush.

Top Shelf work for sure. Your projects always inspire me to go further with my own work.
What psig are you spraying the UC with ?
I use both .5 Revolution and a .3 hp-ch Hi Line usually around #25 also a hp-th .5 which is like having a Jolly Green giant size gun on a regular car but a bigger clean up job than the regular ab's.
I'm trying to wrap my head around a .3 and only 20% reduction with UC....
I Mix UC 1:1:1 with the .5 and it's still thicker than a 1:1.5 base paint.
Appreciate your expertise and work.

Thanks Mike.
I spray at 20psi with an Iwata Eclipse Hp-cs and it goes down like a dream. I have another Iwata with a .5 tip but it’s too much. The clear goes down great but it ends up killing detail because of the build. I really find two wet coats is plenty. Any more, it kills detail and looks like an acrylic block, any less and it’s too easy burning through when polishing.

Interesting Interesting.
I have some to clear today and will experiment with it.
I do 1/64th slot car body's as my medium by accident.
I kinda prefer a little extra build which after fully cured, seems to help hold everything together in the event the owner decides to let the kids or g'kids race one. LOL..
Your correct in build aspect. I'm not loosing definition per say but you get the "encapsulated" look for sure. These molded body's aren't exactly meticulously detailed anyway so I just dress them up.
I will do a Reducer flow coat often times for appearance. Only so much cut & buff possible on these.
Appreciate your time and knowledge.
Some of my cars.
Thank you.

1/64 is a tough scale not to bury all detail, you’ve done a great job. I’m working on a 1/12 Porsche 917K as we speak. Plan on doing it in the Gulf livery.

Oh Man !! Really looking forward for This one. It's unbelievable how Detailed it is.
INSANE !
About the UC,
I've been using, a now 13 yr. old can of UC and nos previously unopened Activator which accounts to the longevity of it and curiosity about our conversation, opened a New quart of UC for inspection.
Quite a difference in Viscosity of the main resin part. Much more fluidity.
Now I see how the 20-30% reduction and a .3 could work. Been a long time since I quit painting and when I started this on a whim just used what I had and adapted it for my needs. And It worked very well surprisingly. Another Testament of SPI products.
The Gulf livery is a favorite of mine too and done several different cars.
Excellent choice.

X2.
The white cotton flap wheels and these foam mini pads.
Same compounds as full size cars.
And,
VERY CAREFULLY !!
I've said before that I've really Learned a Lot going Small.
You basically add a zero to your sand paper grits.
800 in this world is your 80.
This tiny scrap will totally screw a paint job.
Little 'things are a Big deal.

a shame though its not the real thing that your restoring for yourself. i see one sold at auction for $14m lol

I knew this would be Excellent and it IS!
So glad you put it up here after completion.
I guess Seinfeld still owns the Real one ?
Maybe ask Jerry for a Trade explaining how much Easier this is to take care of....
Do these kits come with the Decals as well?
Is there a specific Paint vendor you use for the models Factory colors?
Exceptional work and Patience!

The kit does come with decals but I painted the meatballs and stripes, much better result that way. I use Gravity colors out of Spain for the bases. Very accurate color matches and sold in 2oz bottles.

Yes. The Gravity Paints I've got have been good. Word seems to be to buy directly from Spain as the U.S. distributor is troublesome. Seem to have a distinct smell too compared to the U.S. bases.
Their standard shipping is good but the 10 days is painful. Lol. Hiroboy is another option but They apparently only ship DHL air as I understand.
Inspire airbrush is a U.K. brand but has a U.S distributor with ups ground. Been really pleased with Their products for my custom body's and seems to have the same smell. I asked about using spi urethane reducer and they said any quality urethane reducer was fine but no idea what Brand of Product they both use. Plus 4oz bottles instead of 1or 2oz. Unlike Gravity the U.S. distributor is Excellent.
Thank you.
