Using reduced epoxy as a sealer

I have sprayed a few test cards for matching my colors using 6610 epoxy mixed 1:1:1, but it still sprays out somewhat orange pealy. I am spraying with a Sata 3000 hvlp with 1.4 tip at 40 psi at the gun's gauge. Should my air pressure be less? I understand that normally Sata recommends 30 psi at the gun (from what I was told), but I have found on the last few spray out cards, colors matched better for me, at 40 psi. Am I using too much air pressure for the epoxy reduced as such at 40 psi? I am hoping I can get the epoxy reduced as a sealer to lay flat, and get rid of this orange peel look. thanks for any advice guys!

Are you sure you mixed it with equal parts of epoxy, activator, and reducer aka 1:1:1? I don't recall ever noticing any peel at all when I sprayed epoxy this way. Runs are always my problem when it is mixed this thin. I am not experienced with a gun like yours, but 40 psi doesn't sound unreasonably high.

40 psi is way too high for a sata hvlp. Max for that gun is 29 psi I believe. Drop down to about 25-27 psi and start from there.

at 1:1:1 it should lay very smooth as that is a good thin wet coat.

try adjusting the amount of trigger pull down and shoot on a thinner coat, make sure to let it induce well. If it goes on so thin you can see through it then just double pass it.

thanks guys. I will drop my air pressure way down. I guess I never really knew what was recommended from sata on the hvlp 3000. I do mix it 1:1:1 as a sealer. When clearing, I use a 2000 rp gun at about 20 psi, and it lays down nice and flat.

The biggest thing is trying to get it on thin, don't use fast reducer or you'll get too much dryspray along the edge of the pattern.
