USING SPI EURO 2020 5000 FOR COLLISION REPAIR

I keep SPI Euro 5000 and Universal for all my jobs, Yesterday I had a friend come by and tell me that I can't use Euro on collision repair "White pearl"because it has a yellow tint and will not match factory clear and will change the color of the repair and be noticeable. I admit I am not an experienced painter and always need help but that did not seem right to me. I would like to hear the verdict from you guys who are much more experienced than me, Is he right and I need a different clear than Euro for collision repairs or is he nuts?

Sounds like your friend is talking about some other products. None of the SPI clears have a "yellow tint", I have used them all, Universal, Production and Euro. I have also used SPI Euro clear on white pearl blends, both Nissans with excellent results.

He has never used SPI clears but is going by the Euro he bought at the parts store from American refinishers. He has tried to get me to use a $65.00 production clear on my collision repairs but you get what you pay for and SPI is absolutely the best I have used. He used that same production clear on a 1972 Duster he redone last year and put 2 coats only, I told him that he should have used SPI universal and he said I make more money my way, So I guess he will stay on the path he is on. Thanks so much guys I need all the help I can get and I don't want to use any other clears than SPI that I keep on hand.

This is a great thread for the masses. It's short (so far), has testimony from pro users, has a myth from an "expert" similar to other experts some of us know, has a great product winning out over "evil", and an OP that followed up with great info -- all in one day!

Friends like those & who needs enemies.
I found a hockey puck sized piece of dried matte clear from a mixing cup a while back. With the flattner in it & being an inch thick it was a bit opaque looking, but still not near casting a yellow tint.
JC, you might need to be the smarter friend & steer your friend away from such cheap products.

I used Euro daily in collision repair and it works perfect with any color base including white pearl. Attached are pics of a white pearl job I did a couple months ago with Euro clear.

That looks really good jc, I have tried time again to get him to use SPI products but he says he saves more money his way. When I find something that works good I stay with it.

Compare what you are doing, with what he is doing one year out. I guarantee your stuff is going to look much better JC. Oh and that guy did you a favor, you know now not to listen to anymore of his "advice".

Just a thought about Barry and SPI. I have been doing this work for 29 years almost. (I really should have stayed in College:mad: what was I thinking?) and Barry is the most knowledgeable guy I have come across on the product side in that time. Not to mention his ethics and the way he runs his company. With things like they are today we are lucky to have a guy like Barry and his boys at SPI in our Industry.

I agree with all of this, and I'm only a hobbyist. Not only is Barry knowledgeable, he really cares about what his customers need to do their jobs well. (Sorry, Barry, we're really gonna make you blush this time around!)

I don't know about Barry's ethics. He sent me jelly beans 2 orders in a row and I ate them, so I made another order and I tore through the peanuts and no jelly beans! Now tomorrow I am going to order again (a bigger order) just for the jelly beans. I really don't need any product but just thinking about the jelly beans makes me order anyway. This seems rather unethical to me:D

I don't know , that is why I'm going to make a bigger order to see if I can find that magic number. Oh, and he put extra orange peel in the last gallon of Universal I got, and you know it couldn't have been technique or conditions. It's just not right! I found if you use the peanuts as ice cubes they don't taste as bad.

Okay Chris I have compared my work to his several times and can say that I am more of the OCD type than he is, I want to be the very best I can be even on an old work truck. I saw the hood on the Duster he did last year and he said he was finished and waiting on the customer to pick it up, The hood had a lot I mean a lot of fish eyes in it. I told him he has water problems and he said I never have had trouble with water, He has no type filters except a very small water trap from Harbor Freight. He came to my shop and said where did you get the dessicant dryer and m60 cartridge? I said I thought you did'nt have water trouble? I admit I am not the most experienced dude out there but every precaution I can use I take advantage of it. Thanks for all the help and comments guys, I use SPI for everything I can on my projects and will continue because quality and support can't be beat!!
