Wanda basecoat?

Doing a basic repaint for a friends kid on a 2000 Ford ranger ext. cab ,step side. E4 red.
Doing the outside and touch on inside door bottoms.
I haven't done any full repaints in some years. My question is how is Wanda's coverage?
Was concerned because it's a 2:1 mix. Hoping 6 RTS quarts is enough.
I spray DBC on a daily basis, it's 1:1 and 4x the $$$.

What’s your cost on a qt of Wanda vs dbc? I need to find an alternative, dbc is getting out of hand. But our local area is dominated by PPG. We have a Napa that now caries valspar, not too interested in that. So I’m probably stuck mail ordering.

I would be very surprised if the Wanda covered worse than DBC red. DBC white and red doesn't cover worth a flip, comparatively speaking :)

I’m just curious what the price difference is per sprayable qt or some sort of measurement. I blend most everything anyway and I’ve read Wanda matches are pretty decent so I’m not worried about that side of it. But at 2:1 if you buy a pint or quart etc…your getting less sprayable material. Just curious how it works out in the end.

I sprayed Wanda once on a project. No problem with how it sprays or looks but I found a base that mixes 1:1 to be more to my liking.
Right now I am using Automotive Art Motobase LV I purchase from Chad Sperry. He ships to me and his color mixes have been spot on.

Yeah honestly I don’t even like dbc that much but it’s what everyone uses around here. Coverage isn’t all that great and price is thru the roof. But better than Omni. I’ll have to look into keystone. I’ve also thought about trying some motobase from Chad as I’ve heard coverage is great and matches pretty well. I guess mail order isn’t a huge deal for certain jobs, and if I’m not in a hurry and know far enough ahead of time. Sometimes I wish I had my own bank.

1 gallon of F1/E4 ford red is 375.00 my cost in Wanda base. 1 quart of most of my red DBC(dmd) toners that would make this red are $375 and usually more. So for me it's 4 times the price for DBC. I was more concerned about 6 RTS quarts being enough with the Wanda.
I can get Onmi plus for $470 a gallon and it's 1:1. I've never been impressed with most of the Omni line. So was leaning towards the Wanda, hoping it covered as good or better than the Omni plus to make up the difference in material.

I used Wanda for the first time about a month ago - always used Omni plus - 3 coats of Wanda compared to 4-5 coats of Omni plus- but I did use red and shot it over SPI red epoxy so that helped

Wanda is light years ahead of Omni and Omni+. Remember too when you get a solid color in Omni+ it's just plain old Omni. (all solid toners are regular Omni) But you pay the Omni+ price. The + only applies to metallics and the metallic in Omni+ often won't match an OEM color. Utter garbage in some cases. Subaru WRX Blue is one color that in Omni+ won't match the OEM in terms of the metallic. I've envountered many more like that. I've sprayed more than I care to admit of the Omni+ at several Shops. As long as I'm doing this for myself I will never use it again. For tighter budget jobs, Wanda and Motobase are priced the same or less than Omni+ so it's a no brainer for me.

Just for comparison.
I also used ProSpray for a while with good results but since trying Motobase LV haven't looked back.
Sprayed Omni once, that was enough for me. There is a reason why paint companies can sell a bargain brand for so much less than their brand name product.

Could always paint it SPI Red and then you will get the most bang for your buck.
I'm just doing the outside. Not the jambs , just touching up inside door bottom where we blasted a little rust off.
SPI Dk. Red looks really close to the F1/E4 chip in the book, but probably way cleaner and not as brown of a cast.
Too late, if I order tomorrow. Won't have until Monday. Spraying this Sunday. Another jobber store gave me a really good price on the Axalta Duxone(old chromabase). Think Wanda is the answer, even if I have get an extra quart if we run short. Only doing the cab and doors this weekend.
Will do the box and tailgate another day and then the front clip after.

i had diamont in my shop for prob 8 years and now wanda for prob another 7 or 8. if you switched out wanda for diamont i would not be able to tell the difference and diamont is aprox 3 times the cost. almost all colors i have ever shot with wanda are 2-3 coats max. unless its a color that is specifically made transparent for an effect then i have not ever had a color require more coats than that. i am used to the 2:1 mix. i have actually never used a paint system in 20 years that mixed 1:1. they have all been 2:1. remember that wanda is basically a premium line. you get the economy price because it lacks any kind of warranty or tech support. if you call akzo nobel or ask one of their reps a question and mention wanda they wont even answer you.
