When can I just scuff (80 grit) old paint and epoxy?

So it must be a simple answer b/c I could not find it searching. I'm doing a 84 f250 the same original color. I just finished stripping the bed to bare metal. It took some time so I figure I would ask if just 80 grit on existing paint would be ok. I'm thinking it's ok but just need some reassurance. I plan to degrees DA with 80 gritt degrese and epoxy,....Sound ok?

Thanks for helping out a beginner!

80 scratch in metal is ok but epoxy will not fill 80 scratches in paint...If you have sound paint just scuff it with 600. Shoot color.

The existing paint is 24 years old. If you want to risk it, you can try to epoxy over it, but you need to sand out the 80 scratches with 150 or 180.

It's NOT recommended.

Thanks!!! I have been reading about the razor and heat method. Think I'll give that a try first. I did not even think about the difference 80 grit has on metal vs. paint. Glad I asked. Thanks again.
