"Where is Shine" follow up.

Shine just posted on Facebook that he is no longer on this forum. Didn't say why.

Message him and ask, but I will bet it's because of that first coronavirus thread that got deleted. He got a little political and I think he took it getting deleted as something directed at him. Just my gut.

That's a shame, if so. I thought he was in agreement with the rest of us that one of the things that makes this forum great is by avoiding topics that don't pertain to SPI and our craft. Letting politics in here would be a great way to get us all hating each other. Leave that to the other 99.9% of the Internet, and let this be the shelter from the storm.

I've had to pretty much stop my consumption of news and political talk shows. Last week or so while working I've been listening to a steady diet of old Don and Mike radio shows. Love those guys, and the show still holds up well. Feeling much better this week. :)

Bunch of archived shows and clips here:

If you aren't familiar with them they aren't really family friendly, more crude humor than anything really bad. Might not want to listen though if Junior is by your side.:)

Shine Mccarver Snow flake invasion .too much whining . They bitch at Barry and it puts him on the spot .

Friends get pissed at each other time to time but that's human.
He'll be back. Sites like this don't come around often.
After watching final episode of Modern Family last night, we need a group hug lol.

Well removing of that site had nothing to do with him except maybe 3%, the post was gone with him on it or not.

Like my wife says to me all the time, get over it!

The site will be professional, or it will be shut down, as doing my best to watch but don't have the time like Dub did to be on here all the time.

We all love this forum because of the civility. Sometimes, we get a little "drunk" and spout off.

I had been thinking about killing it and watched, but I missed a few posts, and a few texted me upset over attacking one of our guys on the east coast area.
So got on shine had just posted and nothing terrible, but I knew it was going to bring out the worst in a few, so at that point, I stopped thinking about it and said time to go.

Dub use to call and bitch about his arguments with people about individual posts, and I always told him I don't have time to worry about it, so handle how you think is best, and im with you.
Worked great, but now I need to learn how this works so that I will make some mistakes.

I think a forum on the right track, but I'm always open to opinions, and I do listen.

Barry, please keep up the good work. This is a very civil forum, and the only way to maintain that level of civility is through adherence to a set of rules and guidelines. Believe me, I have been on many forums (most?) where personal attacks, rudeness, sarcasm, etc. is allowed. I don't stick around long on those sites-I get what I need and disappear. This is one of the few sites that I leave open all day and check often.

This is the first forum I joined, years ago: http://www.owwm.org for restoration and repair of old woodworking machinery. If you have a few minutes, read the rules of the forum. The moderators there enforce the rules to the letter, and I find it to be one of the most enjoyable forums that I participate in. No fighting, no politics, no BS, just old woodworking machinery. The rules are enforced politely but firmly.

Anyway, I agree that you can and should run your forum how you see fit, and that I am happy with it as it is.

John
