Which colors fade more and which last longer?

NoobDude

A friend stopped by yesterday and we got to talking color for this 58 GMC step. I was thinking of just leaving it in the grey primer and clearing it until I read the thread last week and Barry saying that's not such a great idea. So I have been reading your collective thoughts on base and brands. Maybe because I have been living in the grey of the Oregon coast too long or maybe because I liked the idea of the grey primer with the black undercarriage, but I am leaning towards a color combination something like the KemBase MGC202 Stellar Silver and MGC203 Charcol Grey. My friend said that silvers and greys are the worst colors for fading. Then he mentioned cars from the 80's as his reference.

I did a search here and found a reference to Reds and Oranges being the worst colors for fading, so now I ask you the Assorted Oracle's of Paint for a momentary and qualified answer knowing the Tech God's legendary whimsy regarding definitive answers. Given the current state of things, what colors fade first and which fade last?

(and whats the word on KemBase as far as top middle or bottom shelf quality? IYHO)

Thanks

Reds are the worst.
Oranges and yellows tend to tie for next worst but not as bad.
Silvers, blues are not bad and neither is green shades.
Best colors are white and black as well as white and black shades.

Only problem silver has is poor spraying like over reducing dry coats and then the paint is weaken and will break down fast or clear likes to come off of silver also, if the base is spray wrong.

Your question? Below bottom of the barrow.

Thanks Barry, I wasn't actually thinking of the sub barrow brand as much as I was looking for a chart showing the range of color I was interested in...
I do my best to follow 'the oracles' advice and put a call into Chad friday afternoon but early afternoon here is after closing there.

I'll work it out Monday.
Mostly I was checking my friends "advice" qualifications...

Can you give me a ring first thing tomorrow morning? If that works out for you?
or send me a pm if you have any questions..

Chad, I think it would be entirely appropriate to put a link to your website in your user profile, there is space in "Biography" or "Interests."
