which seam sealer??? HELP

I like to have epoxy primer be the first thing that is applied to bare metal. This includes the areas that will later be seam sealed. Not sure if it is necessary but in my way of thinking it offers the best protection for the metal.

Agree, personally I would never put seam sealer on bare metal even though if I'm not mistaken, the directions on some say to apply to bare metal.

My big issue at this point is along with the cost of the 2k sealers those damn applicator guns are so overpriced. I mean, $100 for a caulking gun...

Then I came across this gun. $38!! View attachment 6365

I'm thinking this with some of the 3M 2k heavy body sealer, 08308, for the underside and some 3m brushable for the inside. It seems to me that the regular 2k stuff that is self-leveling wouldn't be the way to go on the underside. If I put it on too thick it might drip.

Any thoughts on the SEM sealers? They have a 2k heavy body sealer I could use for the external stuff and they have some reasonably priced 1k stuff I would use inside.

Whats the diff between the heavy body stuff and the regular? Is it much harder to work with? Is it better for areas that require a thick application?
searching threads about seam sealers again, 2 years later, the gun has caught up, now 67.00.

I know I might not be the king of stupid questions around here, at least a prince, but when you get a 2 part system, it says to use a 26:1 gun for better control. Used a 2 part system, self leveling in drip rails and where it did not move, it got hard, where it slid down, its still soft after 3 weeks.

As far as the stupid question goes, does the actual speed of the material going thru the mixing tip matter when I did not use a 50.00 gun make a difference? I still caved and got the 3M heavier stuff with a 73.00 3m gun (since the other one was 67 and autobody toolmart had a 25.00 off over 250 coupon over the weekend. I just spend more time learning and its not ending, turning into old age.

There are no stupid Qs! I am not familiar with the 26:1 gun. If it is not dry after 3 weeks it will not ever dry; it is not drying because of the run off...it through off the mix ratio. Just carefully scrape it off.
The two parts mix as they come down the mixing straw/ tube. I always squeeze a little on to a piece of cardboard before I start to apply it to the car so I know it is mixed well.
All the guns are pretty much the same, they push equally on both sides of the back of the tube and it mixes itself. as it goes through the tube. No on the speed.

that looked like the gun, they were never available, only a 60.00 model so I caved and got the 3M gun for 75. A tube of that stuff is 35 bucks, not worth it. For 45, might be. 26:1 has nothing to do with mixing, just gearing so pumps equals movement. of plunger. The nozzles use up enough seam sealer to mix. You are supposed to push the first of the two parts out to waste until they are even.
Only two things to know about seam sealer, either flowing or stiffer not. You use the flowing on a floor where it seeks its own level and stops moving and its fine. You use that on a vertical, like drip rail and you will be digging it out. It keeps running and it does not dry.
