I'm restoring an old Radio Flyer wagon for my neighbor. My intention is to paint the handle and axles with black SPI epoxy and then with Universal clear. I have some old Universal clear but no activator for it. But I do have some fairly fresh 2103 activator on hand. Will it work?
@Barry might tell you if it would work in private, and about what ratio to use, but this is nothing we would ever post in public. Can you imagine the trouble it could cause?
Yeah, I wouldn't be asking if it were a car.
One time years back, I asked about using SPI activator for some old Deltron ss I had and Barry at first said no but when he found out I was talking about painting a fridge he told me to try it. It worked.
I texted him.
I don't think I need to keep it secret because the answer was that it won't harden but it will dry. I'll just leave these black parts in epoxy primer since it's kind of a semi-gloss.
I had some Shopline Texaco Red ss from when I painted my gas pump 11 years ago. Without asking first, I did a test to try an activate it with that fresh 2103 that I have. It seemed to work but took 2 or 3 days before it seemed hard. I polished in it and it seemed to polish fine so I figured the activator did kick the hardening.
I sprayed it about a week ago and it will be just fine for it's purpose:
I just used rattle can white paint for the wheels. And I found restoration Radio Flyer decals for it online. I'll buy new plated bolts for it this week and get it all done.
