Window sealant question

I've had slower progress on the project then I'd like but I'm getting ready to shoot the wing window posts w/some SEM Hot Rod black matte SS & am wondering what do guys do for the wing window glass itself?

The original bases the glass seats in look like they had a rubber seal of some sort they sat in, mine are rotted & impossible too find/buy so I wonder if I can bed them in a black sealant of some sort. You guys must run across this on the older cars w/wings dont you?

Any idea's would be appreciated!

it's a bit farther along then this right now, she's finaly a roller on the ground, yea!!

well if you wait long enough you can answer your own questions:):)

here's my solution for worn out wing window rubber, pretty simple really. I pulled apart the windows & the original rubber was badly degraded......

as you can see there's an inner tube I sacrificed for the wings, just cut a piece longer then the window, left it in tube form & pressed the glass into the base

then I trimmed it off w/a razor blade - worked really well & should hold up fine

its always nice to find a solution for the weird problems in one's own shop.

That will probably work, glass shops that do this kind of work on the older cars have that rubber like stuff on a roll for setting glass in the regulator channel-it has a tar like surface to grip the glass, I've also used windshield urethane but it can be messy.

thanks for the tips & offer. I think it'll hold up, it's captured by the pivot point & the stainless base is tensioned into the frame by the spring so I dont think its going anywhere & its pretty snug in the channel w/the inner tube rubber.

I saw that stuff by CR Laurence but like you didn't need a lifetime supply either.
