Blasting media

I like the cheap media because I blast stuff that produces flakes of paint etc that plug everything up. So I just dump that load of media and start another bag. If I was paying $70 a bag it would be pretty painful. I would never be able to use it 10 or 20 times longer than the crushed glass unless I started screening it and reusing it. I just don’t want to mess with that…

I also keep my cabinet blasting to a bare minimum and blast as much stuff as I can outside with my pressure pot blaster. So much faster.

totally...outside with a pot is way faster.

ahhh the dreaded flakes that plug up the cabinet. i get that as well but i was able to greatly reduce that. i went on mcmaster and ordered steel mesh with an opening size a couple few times the size of the grit and i have that on top of the expanded steel work surface in the cabinet. this strains the material as i blast keeping ALMOST all the crap out of the media. i do still get the occasional flake that makes it by somehow but the frustration of the media pickup constantly getting plugged is way down. when i am done blasting i can just take a wetdry vac and vacuum the flakes off the mesh.

I run trinco 80 grit aluminum oxide in my pressure pot cabinet. Coal slag is so dusty and dark colored that it sucks. I found the 50lb bags are very effective and last a lot longer than cheap media.
