2K Primer recommendation needed

I have a car to refinish in the near future. Having only used the SPI 2K sealer as a primer on my collision jobs, I am looking to use a 2K primer on this job, but I am a little confused with the turbo and regular 2K. The car is in a good shape, the paint is badly faded by the sun, so I won't need a high build for crazy blocking. Is it worth using a 2K primer over the 2k sealer mixed 4:1?

Also I have never used Epoxy primer before, could it be used in a such scenario? And how does it sand compared next to a 2K. I am looking forward to start using epoxy and eliminating the self etching primer from my shop.

Your base should be epoxy primer. It sands easy and has a slight sheen so it acts as its own guide coat. In the few projects I have been working on, I strip to bare metal, weld patch panels in and knock out dents, then apply epoxy. Then apply filler and block out, then use 2k or turbo primer. I have only used the high build 2k but I am switching to the turbo next time I order. There will be more responses with much more experience than I have.

Agree with outlaw sand paint use epoxy first it will basically put a barrier between existing paint and 2k prime . I have found from experience if your going over paint of any kind and you don't epoxy first the paint can suck up and release solvents later down the road causing soak issues the epoxy eliminates this just my cents.

Also recommend turbo no reason to not use it builds great, sands great, 100% cure is fast

Is it possible to use strictly the epoxy primer, without having to use 2K? It's not going to be a production type job, but not a show car also. Customer wants a good job without going mental.

I think "shine" is one of the members who has used nothing but epoxy primer to block out, but wait until you hear that from him or others who have done it. I have worked enough with it to believe its possible, just avoid putting too much on too fast.
