3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film

I just bought a new truck - first new vehicle in 22 years! I was wondering if the 3m paint films are something I should consider for protecting the paint on the front of the hood. I see they also have an aerosol can version tool (3m paint defender), but not sure if either of these products are worth considering. Anyone have experience with protective paint films? If so, what recommendations do you have? Can this stuff be removed without damaging the paint?

Thanks

It can be peeled off later. It's like a thick decal, a heat gun will usually soften it enough to remove, then a little mineral spirits will remove the traces of adhesive.

Crash, what else you guys know about this stuff? Does it breath? How about over fresh paint, how long do you wait?
I have not gotten into this and should learn it.

In winter I tell people to wait until warm weather, and in warm weather I tell them to wait a month. Pretty much the same thing I say about wax. But to be honest, until we have to peel one that was applied on fresh paint, it's hard to say if it causes problems or not. I really don't know.

Thanks for the info. I bought a 2013, so the paint has had several months to cure. I may give the spray version a try once (and if!!!) things warm up. Lots of youtube videos on this stuff.

I want to protect (from my wheelchair) quarter panel jam edge, rocker & everything else i knocked paint off getting chair in/out 2x/day easy for past 365 x 15 = 5,475 heh.
I see 3M & XPEL as major players used by Viper, Vette ect owners. Thoughts?
Also wishing chrome caddy bumpers had it since day1. Chrome would still be new underneath as if ya peeled off a old bumper sticker.
